Stay safe in summer sunBaseball? Swimming? The fair?

Whatever your preference, you still need to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Those rays are linked to skin cancer and they can cause premature aging. Did you know that the sun causes changes attributed to aging, such as wrinkling and brown spots, on as much as 90 percent of visible skin? According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, you can spend time outdoors without jeopardizing the health of your skin by doing the following:

  • Stay in the shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., which is peak "burn time"
  • Don't allow your skin to burn
  • Wear a hat, ample clothing and UV-blocking sunglasses
  • Use a UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day
  • Apply sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before you go outside; reapply every two hours or after excessive sweating
  • Keep newborns out of the sun
  • Do monthly skin checks and have an annual exam
