Why Have a Care-A-Thon?
Funds raised through the Care-a-Thon will support the ongoing needs of providing hospice services to our community. Hospice provides in-home care for patients when life expectancy is measured in months instead of years, with the goal of helping families avoid the emotional, spiritual, social and financial stresses caused by frequent hospital stays. When you volunteer for the Care-A-Thon you’ll be helping to ensure that no one dies alone, that when they do pass it will be peaceful, and that families have the support they need to grieve after their loved one is gone. As a family member of a recent Hospice patient says, “You can’t possibly give a more loving gift.”
What is the Care-A-Thon?
The RMH Care-A-Thon is the hospital's annual phone-a-thon event where we reach out to past donors and ask them to renew their support. Each year we try to contact about 3,000 donors in two nights, and so the more volunteers we have making phone calls the more successful we can be. The biggest challenge every year is recruiting as many volunteer callers as we can, and that's why we’re reaching out to you. The event is two evenings in September (the 25th and the 27th) from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. We serve dinner to everyone volunteering and also have giveaways and door prizes. We are happy to have volunteers on one or both nights - whatever suits your schedule. Another nice thing about the event for volunteers is that it is very time-limited ... we only ask volunteers to be there for 3 hours and there is no advance training required.
