Come to the Mountain View Café for a Taste of the Mediterranean!
Sentara RMH Food and Nutrition Services will celebrate National Nutrition Month in March with special café meal offerings, a salute to its clinical dietitians, and a food drive for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Throughout the month, the RMH Mountain View Café will offer a “Taste of the Mediterranean” with dishes that celebrate flavors from Greece, Italy, Spain and Morocco.
“We will celebrate the Taste of the Mediterranean by emphasizing foods from plant sources, including whole grains, vegetables, fruit, beans, nuts, seeds, legumes, and herbs and spices,” said retail manager Jason Caffrey. “Moderate amounts of dairy and seafood are also included, along with olive oil as the main source of fat.”
Caffrey noted that each Wednesday in March, the hospital’s registered dietitians will be in the Mountain View Café at lunchtime to promote and provide samples of the healthy entrée items being prepared and served.
Registered dietitians are dedicated to improving the health of the community through nutritious eating. Registered Dietitians’ Day is March 12, and the special healthy Mediterranean entrée prepared that day will be chicken cacciatore.
The Sentara RMH Food and Nutrition Services department also will be supporting the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank with a food donation drive March 10-23. Donation barrels are set up in the Mountain View Café, at The Coffee Cup, and at the Sentara RMH Wellness Center.
The food bank provides emergency assistance to more than 120,000 people each month in Western and Central Virginia. Items most needed include the following:
- Cereal, Canned Meats (tuna, salmon, chicken), Boxed Mac & Cheese, Canned Soups & Stews, Canned Fruits & Veggies, 100% Juice (boxes, cans), Dairy Items (canned, evaporated, or powdered milk), Pasta & Rice, Paper Products, Peanut Butter, Personal Care Items, Spaghetti Sauce. (No glass containers, please.)

“We invite the community to join us in the café all month long to enjoy healthy, delicious food and celebrate our registered dietitians,” Caffrey said. “We also appreciate donations to help feed the hungry in our community. The people who may need it most could be your next door neighbors…and you wouldn’t even know it. Share generously!”
