Mark Zimmerman has been named regional vice president of Human Resources for the Sentara Healthcare Blue Ridge Region, which includes Sentara RMH Medical Center and Martha Jefferson Hospital
Zimmerman joined Sentara RMH in 2001 as vice president, Human Resources. He has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare human resources management. Before coming to Sentara RMH, he served as vice president of Human Resources for Martin Memorial Health Systems in Stuart, Florida. Prior to that, he served in progressively responsible human resources management positions in four other hospitals/health systems up and down the East Coast.
“I appreciate, and am excited about, the opportunity to continue to improve HR service delivery in the Sentara Blue Ridge Region, and to continue best practices in leading Sentara Healthcare human resources strategies,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC, and a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administration and the Society for Human Resource Management, and is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional, Human Resources (SPHR). He is an active member and past president of the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg-Massanutten and serves as a board member of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic.
Zimmerman will continue his site-based responsibilities in leading HR and Support Services at Sentara RMH. Debbie Desmond, director of Human Resources at Martha Jefferson Hospital, will continue in that role and remain a part of the MJH senior leadership team.
